The Hindu Crossword 1000 [October 17, 1974]

As promised in my post on Admiral Katari, here is The Hindu Crossword no. 1000 set by him. This puzzle was originally published in The Hindu on October 17, 1974. Enjoy solving.

( I have never heard this word despite my to listening numerous cricket commentaries over years. Might have been in vogue in the Admiral's younger days)

23A- Lamberth- Anno not clear LAMBETH [DD].

1. A line dance popular in the 1930s, in UK.
2. A place in London.

I had to look up LAMBETH and TICE too. Which were your favourite clues in the grid? Mine were the first and last - 1a and 24d - smooth surfaces with nicely blended definitions.

Readers of fiction will know LAMBETH from the title "Liza of Lambeth", the first novel written by W. Somerset Maugham. The author was working as a doctor in the place when he wrote it.

Only today I read this post.Interesting. But I am not able to do the xword in acrosslite.How can I get it?
