Good analysis, I should say.
How about PASTE which is a commonly used clue for imitation diamond or artificial jewelry?
Talking of 'a girl's best friend',
2: D(1)AMOND WEDDING* / DIAMOND WEDD(1)NG*
3: shED IF ICE
@raju: Thanks. You're right about PASTE, I just wanted to stick the real diamonds for this post.
@Kishore: Good answers.
Hints for the remaining ones:
1. Definition is "Ginger Spice"
4. Definition is "replace"
Replace wonderful watch studded with diamonds (9) SUPERSEDE_______
Building provided rocks behind shed, half removed (7) EDIFICE_____
One beset by goddamned wind spoiled celebration for pensioners (7,7)
DIAMOND WEDDING
Ginger Spice gives diamond maybe to a relative in the States (8) CARDAMOM-- CARD- ONE OF THE DECK OF CARDS AND A MOM American relative.
CARDAMOM:
This was a tough clue to trace, wit5hout adjoining words or grids. The hint of C as a starter did help though.
To clarify my comment, DIAMOND is one of the four symbols in a deck of cards. Very clever !!
I don't normally tackle a cryptic clue without a grid adjoining but here I made an exception out of curiosity.
I must try more of these types/.
(CARD)(A)(MOM)
DIAMOND WEDDING* from (1 goddamned wind)*
[-sh]ED IF ICE
